I am starting this month off with a new solo date experience! I took myself to my first solo concert. I went to see André 3000 and let me tell you, it was nothing short of magical.
I’m loving this season of my life—getting to know myself deeply by showing up for myself, spending time with myself, and doing things that make me feel alive.
As I write this, I’m listening to New Blue Sun to keep the vibe going and relive the experience. I bought my ticket last Friday and planned to sit in the balcony. I even joked with a friend that night, “I have a balcony seat, but I just know I’ll end up on the floor.”
Fast forward to the concert—I walked in, showed my ticket, and the usher said, “You’re in the balcony, but would you like a seat on the floor?” Um, YES! Nine rows from the stage! I could barely believe it.
Live events like this always inspire me, and there’s nothing quite like watching people on stage who are so passionate about what they do. When André came out, he asked us to put our phones away and just be in the moment. So, I don’t have any photos or videos—just my full presence and memory of the night. He only spoke twice: once to introduce his band and explain that they were creating music in the moment—totally unrehearsed, just in flow. And the other time, he thanked us for being there and told us to drive home safely.
It was such a rare, magical, sensory experience that left me thinking deeply about starting over and pivoting in life.
André is 49, and he’s moved from being one of the biggest names in rap to playing the flute and other instruments. A lot of people want him to rap again, but he’s openly shared that he just isn’t inspired to do it anymore. He’s following his own path and passions, not what the world expects of him.
Here’s what André 3000 taught me about starting over:
1. Follow your inspiration. It’s okay to try new things, and it’s okay to start over—again and again. Do what lights you up.
2. Do it afraid. Starting over is scary, but do it anyway. What’s the worst that can happen?
3. Stop worrying about what others think. People will talk regardless, so don’t let it hold you back.
4. Reinvent yourself as many times as you need to. Life is all about evolving. Each version of yourself is another way of living fully.
I’m so grateful André 3000 was my first solo concert. I’m looking forward to many more dates with myself.
On that note, I have something exciting to share with you!
