Have you ever felt like you’re in between stages of your life?
The past, and the future while trying to be in the present.
You’re letting go of everything attached to the past and doing the work to become who you want to be in the future.
This is where I am and it’s hard work.
Yes, this is the life I've always wanted to be free and to live my life on my terms, and yet it requires me to release people, places, and things that are attached to my old life.
I was listening to Viola Davis’s memoir, Finding Me, and while on the continent of Africa, at the age of 25, she realized she was in between, leaving her old life and starting a new one.
And she described the pain you experience during this transition.
I am proud of myself for ending relationships and leaving environments that were not good for my mental health.
The thing is when you begin to detach from your past there will be times when the present will feel unfamiliar and uncomfortable.
It takes time to adjust to the newness.
You see everything about my life looks completely different.
New apartment
New friends
New social life
A new way of thinking
I love it here, and I am having big feelings adjusting to this new place in my life.
This message from The Pattern app which I’ll link below is so timely.
2023 has been a year of endings and new beginnings and I feel like I have a fresh start and that feels really good.
If you can relate to feeling like you’re in the in-between stage of life I recommend the following…
Find a therapist to help you process your feelings and navigate your life
Have supportive friends who see you and who are a safe space
Journal everything that’s coming up for you
Be honest and acknowledge where you are
Give yourself grace
I know I say this all the time but it’s worth repeating, you’re not alone. Many people are in a similar space, simply trying to figure out their lives and doing the best they can.
Viola Davis said in her book, “The purpose of life is to live it” and that is my new mantra.
I am going to settle into this in-between space and live my life fully and unapologetically by doing what feels good and right for me.

I was on Tik Tok and was scrolling through videos, when I learned about Black Ambient music. I love to listen first thing in the morning and throughout the day. It’s calming and it’s a vibe. Here’s a great playlist to check out

I can definitely relate to feeling like being in the in-between. I'm hoping with the new year and some life transitions I'll start to feel more grounded and I'm hoping the same for you.
