I was having a voice note conversation with one of my friends, and she was sharing how in many circumstances in her life, she always prepares for the worst.
It’s hard for her to be present in the moment because she’s been conditioned that it won’t last long.
I asked her why she felt that way, and she said she didn’t know it’s just how she’s always been.
I then asked her, “What if you tried to lean into the good?”
She said she never thought of that and would try to be open to that perspective.
And our conversation is the inspiration for today’s newsletter and podcast.
I know my friend isn’t alone in fact as I was talking to her, I reminded myself that I too need to savor the good that is happening in my life.
Yes, life can be so overwhelming and there seems to always be a lot going and yet there’s a lot of good moments too.
As I am writing you, I am sitting in my beautiful apartment, on my pink sofa, drinking the most delicious cup of coffee in silence.
Life is good.
Sometimes you may have to search for the good, but I am almost positive that you’ll be able to find something.
I remember growing up in the church and we were encouraged to be ready for our blessing while preparing for the storms that were sure to come.
And then depending on how you grew up, you may not have experienced your family celebrating and taking time to embrace the good moments.
So it makes sense that it’s hard for you to embrace the good because you too have been conditioned to prepare for the worse.
It’s time to learn how to be present in the moment, so be easy on yourself.
This is a reminder for you to look at all the good things that are happening in your life both big and small.
When you find yourself worrying, complaining, speaking, or thinking negatively, pause, look around you, and find something good at the moment.
And when you discover it, lean in and savor it as long as you can.
A few weeks ago, my friend invited me over for an impromptu pool party, and we had a time, oh, we had a time. :)
We drank. We ate. We laughed. We danced. We enjoyed one another’s company.
And I am still relishing in the good time we had.
I encourage you to open up your notes app on your phone and start a running list where I want you to jot down the good moments that happen in your life. Whenever you’re feeling down or stressed, look at your list, so you have a reminder of the good moments you’ve experienced.
In today’s podcast episode, I share the importance of leaning into the good. You can subscribe and listen to today's episode on Spotify, Apple Podcast, YouTube, and Amazon. Enjoy and share the episode and this newsletter with a friend!
A few weeks ago I broke my French Press Coffee Maker and immediately ordered a new one from Amazon. I love this one even more because it’s my favorite color, it came with a spoon and it tells you how many scoops you need based on how many ounces of coffee you want. Check it out here.
