My identity changed in 8 minutes.
I was married for 19 years, separated for 11 months, and divorced in 8 minutes.
8 minutes over the phone and my divorce was finalized, just like that.
I didn't know how long it would take to get a divorce because I am the first to go through this experience, however, 8 minutes took me by surprise.
After the call ended, I cried, and I immediately felt my identity shift.
I felt like a different woman, and it was bittersweet.
After 8 minutes, I was no longer a wife and I officially belonged to myself.
I allowed myself space to grieve the woman I was and welcome the woman I am becoming.
For more than half of my life, my identity was tied to my marriage and family, and at that moment everything felt different.
The questions I now have to answer are, who am I now that I am no longer a wife and who do I want to become now that I am free?
Even though I was the same person, I was not the same person.
As I am unlearning and creating a new life for myself, I choose to approach it with curiosity and wonder.
My life changed in 8 minutes, it reminds me that nothing in life is constant.
You have the power to change your life when you’re ready to change.
You don’t have to stay in anything that strips you away from your freedom.
What if you could change your life in 8 minutes, what would that mean to you?
What if you can begin to become more of the person you desire to be in 8 minutes?
Reflect over your life and think about one thing you’ve been wanting to change over the last year. Take time to journal whatever comes up for you. I then encourage you to take one baby step forward to begin living the life you want.
Remember you can change your life in 8 minutes.
In today’s episode I share what I discovered when I researched the number 8, and what I learned gives me so much joy and hope.
